Mitsubishi Concept-cX

Mitsubishi Concept-cX

Small sport utes are big business in Europe, and Mitsubishi intends to be a player as shown by the Concept-cX. The Japanese automaker's concept is powered by a 1.8-liter diesel engine mated to the company's Twin Clutch SST (Sport Shift Transmission). In addition to delivering ample torque and good fuel economy, the diesel powerplant boasts a variable-geometry turbocharger and a particulate trap that enables the engine to meet strict European emissions requirements.

Power is delivered to the 19-in. wheels and tires at all four corners. In addition to the efficient 4-cylinder diesel, the Concept-cX boasts an eco-friendly interior that uses plastics derived from bamboo and other plant-based resins.

This concept also sports the new inverted-slant nose with a large trapezoidal grille that has become a Mitsubishi trademark. The dynamic wedge shape to this hatchback is intended to convey the sense that this little SUV is meant as much for driving as it is for hauling things. The compact body, which measures just 161.4 in. in overall length, and the relatively high seating position are ideal attributes for driving in an urban environment. Access to the rear load area is facilitated by a unique split tailgate that first was seen on the Mitsubishi Outlander.
